Director's Take
Spring is Poppin’
Dear friend of Downtown,
You guys! This spring is gonna be bonkers… I’m so excited – and maybe anxious?! – about all the choices we have for events for you to take part in and experience in Downtown. These are things that are in unique settings, that allow you to experience special urban areas that just don’t exist anywhere else, and also invite you and your community to come together to celebrate spring and cool things to do! I mean, what could be better?
So, to start, the pickleball league is already off to a pace-making start with teams starting to fall into their competitive sets at Baird Urban Sports Park. And don’t worry, if you weren’t able to sign up for the spring league, we still have the fall league coming up in August! In addition to the league play, we also are hosting a fun and simple happy hour, Sports Park Social, in partnership with Against the Grain Brewery in the block of Washington Street adjacent to Baird Urban Sports Park, running through May 18. We have rotating food trucks offering food and you get the added free bonus of either being able to use the wiffleball or pickle ball courts and cornhole boards on Wednesday nights or just taking in the amazing competition of the pickle ball league on Thursday nights!
Starting next Thursday, April 13, we kick off our 2023 season of the monthly S. 4th Night Market on 4th Street, between Guthrie and Chestnut. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., shop from local vendors, listen to live music, imbibe from Crowler Catering’s Thirst Aid bar, and enjoy a night under twinkling nights in the middle of downtown! April’s market will be a Derby-themed market and the roster is full of local vendors who can’t wait to meet you. This monthly event takes place the second Thursday of the month, same place, same time… do not miss out!
Also returning this month is the ever-popular Food Truck Wednesday, making its comeback on Wednesday, April 26! This event will not disappoint, as we have 4-6 food trucks each week on the block of S. 4th Street, between Jefferson and Market, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., with picnic tables and different musicians every week.
The bottom line is this, fellow Downtown fans, there are things to do and there are lots of people who are having fun doing them. If you are ever on the fence about which days to come to the office – we are making it easier for you to decide! Check out more details for these fun events here!
Don’t miss out… see on the streets soon!
