Event Spaces In Downtown Louisville

Repurposed and Downtown Event Spaces

Repurposed (formerly Resurfaced)

As with many cities comparable to the size of Louisville surface parking and underutilized vacant lots offer a unique opportunity to provide great walkable environments for Downtown and surrounding areas. Through the Repurposed initiative, we are exploring creative ways to re-vitalize these vacant and underutilized spaces by creating low-cost investments that activate the space instantly and simply.

The idea focuses on the city as the ultimate user interface, where the community can not only enjoy unique spaces but experiment with the city. This invites us to begin a dialog about how our community can re-bolster the current locations as well as the multitude of surface lots and underutilized spaces in Louisville.

Each project will be a temporary, pop-up, or short-term initiative to illustrate the economic potential and benefit of incrementally activating current unproductive spaces while creating a more vibrant Downtown that can more quickly realize the City’s latent potential.

The Resurfaced events space offers:

  • Historic building facade, exposed brick walls
  • Completely paved surface
  • Approximately 20,000 square feet of space (200 ft deep x 100 ft wide)
  • Easy access from both Main St (Museum Row) and Washington St
  • Electrical outlets throughout the space
  • The ability to fit large vehicles like food trucks and trailers
  • Parking garage behind the event space
  • Customizable, blank canvas for every event
  • No rental fee on certain dates/times. User only needs to cover insurance plus their own event expenses.
  • Almost all types of events are allowed (music, auto show, food truck, retail, markets, outdoor movie screening, etc). LDP reserves the right to not sublease to any person/group for any reason.

Music Alley

Music Alley offers bright, teal-painted alley space next to Mercury Ballroom for open-air markets and small events. The alley between Mercury Ballroom and the Louisville Public Media building is Downtown Louisville’s latest example of “tactical urbanism”. The privately-owned alley recently underwent a makeover that includes all-night market lighting, painting of the concrete surface, plantings, and the addition of a fenced enclosure with Alley Gallery artwork to provide on-site storage of furniture.

The Music Alley events space offers:

  • Evening lighting for Night Markets
  • No rental fee on certain dates/times. User only needs to cover insurance plus their own event expenses.
  • Parking garage behind the event space
  • Almost all types of events are allowed (music, art show, food truck, retail, markets, outdoor speaking event, etc). LDP reserves the right to not sublease to any person/group for any reason.
