Part of the excitement includes 70 events in the 2 weeks preceding the annual Kentucky Derby each spring, many of which are in Downtown, including Thunder Over Louisville which drew a crowd of more than 700,000 people in 2016.

Downtown Louisville is the location of more than 65,000 jobs and 4.500 residents and is the business, visitor, cultural, government, and sports center of Metro Louisville. The Louisville Central Business District is home to just over 1,500 businesses and most of the city's major cultural facilities.
