Downtown’s Economic Impact

04-24-2025

Dear Friend of Downtown,

Louisville Downtown Partnership (LDP) has been releasing an annual Economic Impact Report since 2022, reporting on the past year’s performance in housing, jobs and businesses, hospitality, generation of tax revenues, entertainment, and more. Conclusion first, we’re doing pretty dang great!

Downtown is the largest job center in the city with nearly 67,000 jobs and 1,500 business establishments. There is $2.3 billion of investment in downtown projects either currently underway or announced, the largest amount since LDP has been tracking these stats. The number of hotel rooms and housing units increases every year, as does the number of people in our downtown, including workers, downtown residents, and tourists.

And as the third largest tax revenue generator in the state (behind the cities of Louisville and Lexington), we are lucky to have a strong downtown that can help fund services and needs across our entire city. This is why having a strong downtown is so critical to the health of any city.

At less than 1% of Louisville’s land mass, Downtown continues to outpunch its weight compared to any other neighborhood. No matter if you are a super user of Downtown, or come only occasionally, it requires the public support of you and our tax dollars to continue being the one neighborhood that is for everyone. Check out the report here.

If you haven’t been in awhile, I’d love to show you around…

I hope to see you on the streets soon.
