Look for new fun and interactive installations in public spaces
Louisville Downtown Partnership (LDP) announced a new public art program today that will feature rotating installations in public spaces around Downtown for the next year.
The first of up to six installations features six large football-shaped benches at the Plaza on Fourth, in the 200 block of S. 4th Street. Originally created for a client for brand activation, Austin-based LeMonde Studio now transports the public art across the country for cities to enjoy.
“Public art has the power to transform spaces and create whimsical surprise, and we believe this is a fun opportunity to bring people together in a new and interesting way,” said Rebecca Fleischaker, executive director of LDP. “Temporary public art allows spaces to change and people’s experiences of that space, as well as personal relationships with art, to change.”
LeMonde Studio is a placemaking and urban design company that designs interactive art with sensible technology, creating community-based, and immersive experiences. Pieces are designed for certain cities or spaces, but after time, new art replaces those pieces to keep spaces engaging and available for new experiences. Once the initial commission is complete, other cities lease these one-of-a-kind works of art for more to enjoy.
“LeMonde Studio’s mission is to spark positive conversations within communities,” said Nicolas Synnott, COO and Managing Partner of LeMonde Studio. “With this program, we believe we will create memorable moments and surprise residents with new and fresh interactive installations throughout the year.”
All installations will be on display for four to six weeks and are free and open to the public. For photos of the new art installation, click here.
