Her exploration with oil painting continues, working with a variety of subject matter including her Full-Bodied Wine, Tulips, Sunflowers, Equine, and Figure series.

Opening Reception at Zephyr Gallery

When:     Friday, April 1st, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Where:    610 E Market St, Louisville, KY 40202

Zephyr Gallery is pleased to present “Project 12: Blind Contours,” a collaboration between photographer Jenée Rue Sastry and poet Robin LaMer Rahija. The exhibition, which runs from April 1st until May 21st , 2016, explores the relationship between images, language, and storytelling.

Project 12 takes as its point of departure a fictional town lost to history. Through the exhibition, the artists seek to recuperate, construct, and mystify a town that wasn’t through the juxtaposition of found and fabricated image and text documents. Touchstones for the artists include Sherwood Anderson’s semi-fictional town of Winesburg, Ohio and Captain Ahab’s monomaniacal journey—a journal that has been disarticulated across the many scrolls of Moby Dick (2016)Throughout “Blind Contours” inversions of scale and number act on the viewer like the potions, cakes, and mushrooms of Alice’s Wonderland, facilitating entrances to and exits from fantastical worlds and impossible. Looking, in these artworks, becomes a kind of writing—a drawing-into the picture of the viewer-reader. But it is a writing—a language—that ultimately collapses: a failed grammar that first articulates a world and then becomes irrelevant to it.

MORE ABOUT THE REPUBLIC BANK FIRST FRIDAY HOP:

Every First Friday of every month, downtown Louisville art galleries, shops, boutiques, restaurants, and entertainment hot spots are open extended hours with specials, discounts, refreshments, and live music. Hop on the ZeroBus for a free ride to a stop near each member location. A special thank you to our title sponsor, Republic Bank, for their generous support of the First Friday Hop.

MORE ABOUT THE ZEROBUSES:

The ZeroBus is powered by batteries located under the bus floor. The ZeroBus can travel for up to two hours and fully recharge on route in less than 10 minutes. It recharges automatically by connecting to an overhead system that links to a high-capacity charger. The ZeroBus vehicles travel downtown circulator routes in place of the outdated trolleys – the highest polluting vehicles now in TARC’s fleet. Like the trolleys, they arrive at stops frequently and all rides are fare-free. The ZeroBus is also the new mode of transportation for the popular Republic Bank First Friday Trolley Hop on Main, Market and Fourth streets. A special thank you to our friends at TARC for their generous support of the First Friday Hop.
