NEW CITYSPOT UNVEILED IN DOWNTOWN LOUISVILLE
Colorful artwork brightens Downtown streetscape
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (December 18, 2024) – Louisville Downtown Partnership (LDP) today unveiled a new CitySpot in partnership with JPMorganChase, featuring a vibrant new mural in Downtown Louisville. Located between the west-facing side of the Hyatt Hotel’s parking garage and the Louisville Tourism Visitor’s Center, near the corner of Fourth and Jefferson Streets, the third CitySpot is a new public space to rediscover the art of hanging out.
“Public art is an important part of how visitors, residents, and employees interact and connect with our Downtown,” said Rebecca Fleischaker, executive director of LDP. “The new mural, along with the planned revitalized public space, not only enhances the vibrancy of the area but also contributes to the growing collection of public art across Downtown.”
Funding for the mural at the Fourth and Jefferson Street CitySpot was provided by JPMorganChase, Doug Owen, JLL, and LDP. The CitySpot progam, developed by the Bingham Fellows Class of 2022, transforms under-utilized urban spaces into welcoming, pedestrian-friendly environments that promote social interaction and community engagement. The CitySpot also will include new seating and colorful flowerpots.
“We believe investing in downtown is essential for Louisville’s long-term prosperity,” said JPMorganChase’s Duffy Baker, Managing Director, Kentucky/West Virginia Market Leadership Team Chair and Commercial Banking Market Executive. “JPMorganChase is proud to support projects that not only contribute to the economic vitality of the community, but also reflect the vibrance of our city.”
The mural, designed and painted by Often Seen Rarely Spoken (OSRS), a five-person art and mural collective founded in 2016, will serve as a focal point for the new public space. The design incorporates iconic Louisville elements featuring horses, a fleur-de-lis, and a special edition bourbon bottle, all reinterpreted in new ways that feel both fresh and surreal offering a new perspective on Louisville’s history. The colorful design is meant to engage both locals and visitors, offering them a visual connection to the city.
“When LDP approached us with the opportunity to create a mural for Downtown Louisville, we were thrilled. Not only had we been eyeing the raw concrete space for years, but the chance to create an original large-scale design in a downtown setting with our company’s creative aesthetic was a dream come true,” said Ian Muldoon, creative partner of OSRS. “We hope this paired display of an exterior mural alongside interior paintings gives individuals a chance to better understand OSRS and what we are trying to bring to Louisville’s visual landscape.”
In addition to the mural, OSRS has created a series of paintings reflective of the same design aesthetic currently on display and available for sale at the Downtown Visitor’s Center (301 S. Fourth Street) and the Hyatt Regency Louisville until January 12, 2025.
Other CitySpot sites include the corner of 5th and Jefferson, adjacent to Metro Hall, and the 4th Street Bark Park, north of The Brown Hotel. For companies and organizations interested in sponsoring a CitySpot, please visit this page or contact LDP at (502) 584 – 6000.
