Mayor Fischer urges citizens to join him in expression of compassion, march in Kentuckiana Pride Parade
Fischer encourages citizens to share “#MarchforUnity” on social media
LOUISVILLE, KY (June 14, 2016) — Saying he wants the entire region to show its compassion and unity, Mayor Greg Fischer is calling on Louisville and Southern Indiana residents to join him in marching in the Kentuckiana Pride Parade this Friday.
“Let’s send a message to all people that no matter their sexual orientation, gender identity, race, background, religion or nationality, we in Louisville stand united,” Fischer said. “Our region will send a strong message to our LGBT friends and family – we stand with you. We are Orlando.”
Fischer is also asking citizens who plan to attend or march in the parade to post images to social media that say “#MarchforUnity”
The annual pride parade starts 7 p.m. Friday at Main and Floyd streets and proceeds to the Belvedere, where the annual pride festival is being held.
Mayor Fischer and Metro Government employees will be marching and wearing blue and yellow T-shirts that celebrate the city’s perfect 100 score on the Human Rights Campaign Scorecard, which measures how inclusive cities are to LGBT citizens.  They will also carry special signs that show solidarity with the people of Orlando.
