LOUISVILLE, Ky. (October 20, 2026) – Louisville Downtown Partnership (LDP) today unveiled its newest CitySpot, bringing a colorful and functional new community space to Downtown Louisville. Located on the west plaza of 500W, at 500 W. Jefferson Street, the reimagined area now features a new three-wall mural, expanded seating, oversized planters, and trees and landscaping, turning a stretch of pavement people used to walk past into one they’ll want to stop and stay in.
“Each new CitySpot offers another opportunity for people to slow down and engage with Downtown in a different way,” said Rebecca Fleischaker, executive director of LDP. “Reimagining spaces like this is central to making Downtown a destination full of spaces designed to invite people in and that enhance their experience.”
The 500W CitySpot is the latest example of LDP’s ongoing effort to convert oversized, under-programmed urban spaces into inviting destinations that encourage social interaction, relaxation, and enjoyment, and that strengthen Downtown’s sense of community.
“Our Downtown is our economic engine, a place to work, and a place for residents and visitors to enjoy,” said Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg. “From large initiatives like turning vacant buildings into new housing and completely reimagining the Belvedere to creating new CitySpots that make our Downtown more enjoyable, we’re moving in a new direction that’s transforming our Downtown to make it stronger and more welcoming for everyone.”
The centerpiece of the new CitySpot is a vibrant new mural spanning three of the plaza’s walls, designed and painted by regional mural artist Carrie Johns. Titled “Vibrant Echoes,” the artwork draws inspiration from the location’s history as part of the civic and business center. Surrounding the mural, new patio furniture with umbrellas will offer shaded, ADA-accessible seating for Downtown users to rest, meet, or enjoy.
Four oversized, raised planters anchor the plaza, filled with Sweet Bay Magnolias, Redbuds, and multi-colored perennials planted by Louisville Grows. In addition to the mural, the plantings and greenery add color to this plaza year-round.
This is the first CitySpot to join the Louisville Greenprint Initiative’s portfolio, part of a broader effort to make Downtown healthier, greener, and more resilient through nature-based design. LDP consulted horticultural and health professionals in the Greenprint network, who selected planting arrangements to cool the air, reduce heat-island exposure, and support pedestrian health.
The transformation of the 500W CitySpot was designed by Gresham Smith and LDP and was made possible through the generous support of Thornton Capital, the Louisville Greenprint Initiative, LDP, SomeraRoad, KPFF Consulting Engineering, Champlin Studios, JLL, and Gresham Smith.
“At 500W, we believe great buildings are about more than the spaces inside them. They’re also about how they connect with and contribute to the surrounding community,” said Andrew Marchetti, Managing Director, Head of Asset Management at SomeraRoad. “This project transforms our plaza into a vibrant, welcoming space for our tenants, neighbors, and visitors to enjoy. We’re proud to collaborate with LDP on this vision and the other organizations involved to help bring new energy to Downtown Louisville.”
The CitySpot program was developed by the Bingham Fellows Class of 2022 and aims to convert underutilized urban spaces into welcoming, pedestrian-friendly environments that promote social interaction and community engagement. Other CitySpot sites include the PNC Tower CitySpot at the corner of 5th and Main streets, the JPMorganChase CitySpot near the corner of 4th and Jefferson streets, the Metro Hall CitySpot at the corner of 5th and Jefferson, and the Bark Park on 4th Street north of The Brown Hotel.
