LOUISVILLE DOWNTOWN PARTNERSHIP RECOGNIZES SIGNIFICANT DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS WITH AWARDS
(Louisville, KY)—The Louisville Downtown Partnership (LDP) announced the recipients of the Cornerstone Awards to a crowd of several hundred people at its Cornerstone Award celebration on Monday, April 13th at The Mercury Ballroom, with Steve Poe of Poe Companies providing the keynote address. The Cornerstone Awards were given to significant Downtown projects completed in 2013 and 2014, which represents nearly $150 million invested in Downtown Louisville. In addition, The Bricks and Mortar Award and The S. Russell Smith, Jr. Award of Excellence were presented.
“We are honoring twenty significant development projects that range from housing, arts venues, university buildings, hotels, retail, and even a major stabilization undertaking that sets the stage for further substantial development here in Downtown,” said Rebecca Matheny, LDP’s Executive Director. “Thanks to many years of hard work on the part of countless stakeholders, Downtown Louisville is experiencing an exciting period of growth and revival in our Central Business District. Our city’s collective commitment to excellence and ongoing collaboration has ushered in this new period of tremendous growth and opportunity,” she added.
The S. Russell Smith, Jr. Award of Excellence is named in honor of Russell Smith, Jr. who was a long-time board member and chairman of the Louisville Downtown Management District (LDMD) which, along with the Louisville Downtown Development Corporation now comprises LDP. This year’s private-sector winner was Sam Moseley. He was the former Corporate Leasing Director for the Al J Schneider Company, managing such Downtown mainstays as Waterfront Plaza, Riverfront Plaza and the former Bank of Louisville building on Broadway. During his career, these buildings became fully leased and remain critical to the Downtown office market. Until his retirement in 2012, Moseley also worked tirelessly on behalf of the Louisville Management District as a long-time board member and active supporter. According to Matheny, “when Sam retired, Downtown Louisville lost some sparkle. In addition to his terrific personality, Sam is a tireless worker and excellent strategist. His dogged dedication to the Management District led the organization through many challenging days.”
Lt. Shawn Hensler (LMPD First Division) was the recipient of the prestigious award for the public sector. Lt. Hensler has been with LMPD since 1996. According to Matheny, “Shawn’s steady hand at the till during the unpleasant events at Waterfront Park and his daily professionalism exudes, at its core, a profound respect for others, and his willingness to listen and modify have all made Downtown better, safer and stronger. A natural collaborator, he pushes both us and his officers to work as a team for Downtown Louisville.”
LDP’s mission is to aid in facilitation and strengthening of commerce, provide maintenance assistance, beautify and enhance streetscapes, improve security and safety, and stimulate high-quality development and vitality in Louisville’s Downtown. LDP believes the economic engine of any great city starts with a strong Downtown.
