Baird Urban Sports Park to Host Extended Open Play Hours

More opportunities provided for individuals to use Downtown sports park this summer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 30, 2023) – Louisville Downtown Partnership (LDP) announced extended hours of open field and court play at the Baird Urban Sports Park beginning today, Tuesday, May 30. The park will offer open play six days a week, Monday-Saturday, from 10AM – 8PM.

The Baird Urban Sports Park is located at the RePurposed event space along historic West Main Street at 615 W. Main Street. The park contains two Pickleball courts and a wiffle ball field, which is home to spring and fall sports leagues and Sports Park Social.

“The choice to extend our open play hours was an easy one,” said Rebecca Fleischaker, executive director of Louisville Downtown Partnership. “Our goal with the Baird Urban Sports Park is to create a fun and friendly environment for people of all skill levels to socialize, play, and experience the uniqueness of this park. The expanded open play programming provides increased and easier schedules for people to enjoy this space together.”

Open play will continue through the end of August and is dependent on weather. The courts and field will operate on a first come, first served basis. The Pickleball nets will be up every day, but participants will be required to bring their own equipment when using the park.

The RePurposed site, formerly known as ReSurfaced, was previously an underutilized, 20,000 square foot vacant lot. In the summer of 2022, Baird sponsored the transformation of the space allowing it to accommodate two regulation-sized Pickleball courts and a wiffle ball field.

Baird Urban Sports Park is also available to be reserved for 2-hour blocks by organizations and individuals who want to enjoy the RePurposed space and utilize the sporks park. For more information, visit louisvilledowntown.org/urbansportspark.
