Rachel Grimes Performs Music of Henry Hart | New Lens
Join us for New Lens on November 16 at 7 p.m. at 21c Museum Hotel.
Rachel Grimes will perform selections from her score to The Doctor from India with Julia Cash on violin, alongside the music of Henry Hart—a descendant of Dolly, the first Black woman to live in Kentucky—who became known as a violinist, composer, and band leader in the Midwest.
Grimes has been researching and chronicling Hart’s story through a series of blog posts on the Liberty Hall Historic Site’s webpage. This performance will be the first of Hart’s music in over a century. These waltzes and parlor songs from the 1870s feature Brittany MacWilliams (violin), Cecilia Huerta-Lauf (cello), Gregory Rahming (baritone), Kiana Del (soprano), Laura Atkinson (alto), Ian Hooper (tenor), and Eric Friedlander (bass).
New Lens is free and open to the public. There is limited, reserved seating for members. For questions about reserved seating, call or text 502-814-6565 or email membership@lpm.org.
