5th Street between Muhammad Ali Blvd and The Belvedere

On Sunday, June 6, 2021, in the afternoon, the traffic pattern on 5th between Muhammad Ali and the Belvedere will be interrupted due to the Cathedral of the Assumption’s Corpus Christi Procession.

  • At 1 pm, the congregation of the Cathedral exits the church and gathers on 5th street.
  • At 1:15pm, the group starts walking slowly north, in the street, to the Belvedere with no stops.
  • 2:00 pm, group reaches the Belvedere and gathers with the other churches for a short ceremony
  • 2:15 pm, all groups leave the Belvedere together, walking south on 5th street
  • All groups will pause together, for about 10 minutes at each intersection, where an altar will be set up for a short ceremony. Main, Market, Jeff and Liberty. Counting the altar at
    the starting point on the Belvedere, that’s 5 altars.
  • As the groups leave a given intersection on the southbound leg, a Cathedral staff person will remove the altar, and cross traffic can resume.
  • After the groups leave the last altar at Liberty street, they will continue south, and finally gather on 5th street, in front of the Cathedral, for refreshments until 4pm.

    As the crowd disperses between 4 and 4:30, all traffic can return to normal.
