Reopening Broadway between Second and Hancock Streets

MSD work on Broadway, which began with an urgent repair in October 2020, is scheduled to wrap up by the end of June. While work continues on the pipe underground between Hancock and Campbell Streets, the section of Broadway between Second and Hancock is scheduled to open this Friday.

As part of MSD Connects—a comprehensive large sewer line rehabilitation project—this 96- to 84-inch diameter brick sewer—installed in 1866—has experienced failures in different locations as recently as 2009, 2014, 2015, and 2018.

After vital point repairs, crews rehabilitate the pipe with a high-strength epoxy that is stronger than the original mortar and will serve to extend the life of the sewer pipe. As work is complete on the western end of the project, traffic control is removed and relocated to the eastern end of the project. The total rehabilitation is expected to be complete by the end of June.
