The East Market District of Downtown, covering most of East Main and Market is also referred to as NuLu by all the locals which is a portmanteau for “New Louisville”. NuLu has been growing initially as an arts district with unique art galleries but is now becoming known for specialty stores, antiques, furniture and bourbon shops, and a growing number of local restaurants and breweries. “Thrillist” even named NuLu one of the 18 Best Food Neighborhoods in America.
NuLu is home to the greenest commercial building in Kentucky, many historic restoration projects, as well as several restaurants offering organic and locally sourced ingredients, NuLu has emerged with a culture of sustainability. They are also the location of some of the best hotels and a growing historic urban neighborhood.
