Tune In To Poetry: Voice, Tradition, & Community Fast Class with UofL’s Dr. David Anderson
Learn new ways to approach, read, and listen to poems that invite readers to perceive a community in new ways. Using Bernard Clay’s new collection English Lit and the larger tradition of West Louisville poetry, Dr. David Anderson will show how attention to poetic voice, word choice, structure, and tradition can enhance the experience of poetry, and also deepen appreciation for West Louisville.
Dr. David Anderson an associate professor of English at the University of Louisville. He earned his Ph.D. in English from the University of Pennsylvania. David has been teaching at the University of Louisville since 1993, where he offers courses in a wide range of American and African American literatures, as well as composition. He is currently editing an anthology about African American writing about the sea, entitled I Will Take to the Water (under contract with the University of Chicago Press), researching the lives of African American poets of Kentucky in the early twentieth century (such as George Marion McClellan, Joseph Seamon Cotter, Sr., and Joseph Seamon Cotter, Jr.), and is editing the memoir of former Kentucky State University president Rufus Atwood.
