Memorial Day is a time when we honor the men and women who have given their lives to serve our country. Our brave soldiers are gone, but never forgotten. In Louisville and across the country, we use this holiday weekend to celebrate and remember their lives. Here are just a few of the events taking place this Memorial Day weekend where we can go and enjoy the beginning of Summer.

Fleur De Flea
DATE: 5/26
LOCATION: Waterfront ParkWelcome to Louisville’s finest outdoor vintage urban market. Located on the fabulous Waterfront Plaza with the scenic Ohio River in the background, locals and tourists who visit will be glad they did. Vendors from all over Kentuckiana are set-up selling their one of a kind goods, including vintage clothing, books, records, primitives, antiques, repurposed, recycled, collectables and so much more.
You never know what you might find at the Fleur de Flea! Plenty of local food trucks, farmers and Kentucky proud products will also be there. Plan on bringing the family, the pets, the bikes and spend the day downtown. Once you’ve strolled through the market, walk the walking bridge to Indiana, let the kids play on the awesome playground or just enjoy the beautiful scenery. Meet new folks, find cool treasures, eat good food, make new memories, get outside and have some fun! -
Flags 4 Vets
DATE: 5/25 – 5/28
LOCATION: Waterfront ParkVolunteers will form the letters “USA” using 15,000 flags from veterans’ graves. When completed, the letters will each be 150′ high and all 3 letters together will be 450′ wide. These 15,000 flags honor all of America’s fallen heroes, from every state in the Union, including military, law enforcement, and firefighters. This event will culminate with a Memorial Day observance presided over by Mayor Greg Fischer. The public is invited to assist with placing the flags to form the large “USA” beginning with a short ceremony on Saturday, May 27th at noon.
Admission: Free – open to the public. -
Hike Bike and Paddle
DATE: 5/28
LOCATION:Thousands of cyclists, paddlers and walkers will be in motion on Memorial Day at the 27th Subway Fresh Fit Hike, Bike & Paddle May 28 at Waterfront Park.
“Becoming a healthier city is one of our main goals, and these events help demonstrate that fitness can be fun for the whole family,” said Mayor Greg Fischer. “I look forward to seeing thousands of people gathering for this traditional start of summer in our city, and starting or recommitting to a fitness goal.”

Please arrive in your Dress White Uniform for Memorial Day Vigil to help post 15,000 Veterans’s Grave Flags at the Great Lawn on the Waterfront for Memorial Day. The Mayor of Louisville, Greg Fisher will be there and we will be positioned close to him for the presentation.
