End Date: Oct 26th, 2022
Metro Council and the city’s Commission on Public Art (COPA) will host an artist’s reception on Wednesday, October 26, in the 1st Floor Conference room of historic City Hall, located at 601 W. Jefferson Street. The reception will begin at 2:30 PM.
This is the fifth annual Art in City Hall exhibition, and the art will be on display in City Hall’s entrance lobby, hallways, and public spaces until the end of December. The art is available for viewing and purchase during normal business hours at City Hall.
In total, six artists were selected through the application process that ended last year. The artists are Josh Bleecker, Shelia Johnson, Jackie Lucas, Richard McWherter, Victor Sweatt, and Shelia Wachsman. They will be available during the reception to answers questions about their artwork.
This annual program is a collaboration between Metro Council and COPA. Each fall, artists are invited to submit original, two-dimensional works of art through an online application process. The application process will open in November for 2023. The submissions are reviewed by a selection committee comprised of Metro Council members and COPA representatives. Selected artists in the exhibition will receive a $500 honorarium.
The public and media are encouraged to attend the reception on October 26 to meet the artists and preview their work.
