Bike sharing is coming to Louisville. Our planned Bikeshare Program could launch as soon as next summer, making bikes available to all for short term use at about 30 sharing stations in and around downtown Louisville.
The public is invited to a meeting to talk about the idea, discuss tentatively selected station locations, and make suggestions for locations. The meeting is scheduled for December 16 at the Urban Design Studio, 507 S 3rd Street from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Bike sharing is an innovative transportation program, ideal for short distance point-to-point trips providing users the ability to pick up a bicycle at any self-serve bike station and return it to any other bike station located within the system's service area. Prices are projected at $3 for a single use of 30 minutes or less, or $7 for unlimited trips totaling no more than 60 minutes within a 24-hour period.
We have selected CycleHop, a Miami Beach, Fla. company, to operate Louisville’s bike sharing network. CycleHop operates bike sharing networks in Florida, Arizona, Georgia, California and Ottawa, Canada. The company will fund the Louisville operation through user fees and station sponsorships.
